History/Traditions

  • Jewish Calendar for the year 1999 – 5761 — Visit this site and view the Jewish Calendar for the coming New Year.
  • OU.ORG Presents a Jewish Calendar for the Year 5761 (1999–2000) — This calendar comes equipped with a comprehensive list of Holidays and Occasions which includes a brief description of each and companion related links. (So much more than just an ordinary Jewish calendar!)
  • Shofar/Ram's Horn

  • The Rosh Hashanah Journal — This site is provided by the New England Region NCSY. Read about the holiday and traditions. (A wonderful resource site!)
  • NCSY's Regional Publications — One of the goals of NCSY is to educate. This is accomplished through their regional programs and their special Torah publications. You will find a sampling of these publications here which were written and compiled by the NCSYers themselves. (Lot's of information here!)
  • Guide to the Jewish Year — Not only a listing of yearly Jewish holidays, but an educational resource that explains what each holiday means and its traditions.
  • The Jewish Months — A complete list of the Jewish months of the year, which includes which holidays appear in each month, and the meaning of that holiday.
  • Lazer's Talmud Torah Center for Basic Jewish Education — Table of Contents for a site of basic Jewish Education which includes, Jewish basics, beliefs, mitzvos, prayers, and so much more. (A gold mine!)
  • Dear Rabbi Forum — Got a question... ask the rabbi? Just fill in the form and your question is on its way! (This is a wonderful resource!)
  • Question Answering Resources — Different ways of getting your questions answered. Visit this page for an abundance of question answering resources.
  • Piyyut: The Poetry of Worship — One of the many features that contribute to the uniqueness of the New Year's season is the abundance of poetic additions to the standard prayers. These passages are known in Hebrew as "piyyut," from the same Greek root that gives us the English words poetry and poet. (Visit this page and read more about Piyyut.
  • Index of Newspaper Articles: Around the Calendar — A comprehensive index of Jewish holidays. Each specific holiday category contains a section of relation links.
  • OU.ORG Presents RoshHashanah — This site is one of the most comprehensive to include complete history and resources for RoshHashanah. Information can be found quickly as it is displayed in easy to find categories.
  • OU.ORG Presents Audio Classes for RoshHashanah — This site includes Basic Audio Classes which include: an introduction to Rosh Hashanah, Blowing the Shofar, and Paths To Spiritual Growth, A full course of study by Rabbi Y. Haber as well as: Advanced Audio Classes. (The advanced list is too comprehensive to list here. Certainly worth a surf over to take a look!)

More Rosh Hashanah Recipes — Food Columnist, Joni Schockett share some more of her delightful recipes with us. Jenny’s Favorite Challah (Pareve), and Sweet and Sour Brisket (Meat). (Joni just has to have the most scrumptious food choices!)
High Holiday Fish Recipes — Fish is very popular these days. Not one of my favorites, nevertheless, Joni shares yet another set of recipes that would make one's mouth water.
